The journalism course at Glyndwr University in Wrexham has been accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
The course is run in partnership with North Wales newspaper group NWN Media, which runs ten titles including the four-edition Evening Leader in North Wales and Chester.
Journalism lecturer at Glyndwr University, Janet Jones, said: ‘We believe we have developed a programme in partnership with NWN Media that offers journalism students the best possible package of practical experience and academic expertise.
‘To have that confirmed by the NCTJ through this accreditation is a huge boost.”
The course includes work experience each week at NWN Media, and is also used by trainee journalists in employment.
Jones said: ‘Students, which include trainee journalists employed by NWN Media, have the chance to sit the full set of NCTJ preliminary qualifications as well as gain unbeatable practical experience working in busy and demanding newsrooms.”
Barrie Jones, editor in chief of NWN Media, said: ‘We believe it is a really innovative way of delivering journalism training and many of our reporters are already benefiting from it.”
